Cover songs, because i can

So I haven't really had much to say over the past couple weeks. I never knew how achingly boring summer was. So, because I can, and because I didn't post my totes fierce rant on why America (fuck yeah!) kicks ass, I will shower the 3 of you who actually read my blog with cover songs. Yay!

The first one you will all hate me for. I hate me for liking this song. It's not even performed by bands I like... usually. *cries* Anyways, The Used and My Chemical romance have done an awesome cover of Bowie and Freddy Mercury's "Under Pressure." Now I liked the song before, but I- sadly- like this cover so much better. It adds the pep/emo that the song needs. Its faster tempo and more rock-ish? Anyways, tell me what you think, but I like it, even if the bands aren't my normal listening music.

Okay this second one I also don't really like myself for liking. I'm not much of a usual fan of Fall Out Boy nor am I a fan of John Mayer. Fall Out Boy, to their credit, has a very good sense of humor. They've done covers of pretty good songs like "What's This" from Nightmare Before Christmas, which is a good cover. You can find that one here, but not to download (rats!). I like them for their sense of humor, but I don't usually listen to their music, and they def deliver on the funny factor by covering Michael Jackson. Oh, and John Mayer totes does a boss solo on this song. It reminds me that he can actually play guitar instead of just the same tune over and over again.

As we all know, Rhianna has come to the US from Barbados to make it big. She went from having one song on the charts to like 50 billion. I personally think she's a good artist, but her music is very club oriented. This song, "Umbrella", was on the charts for a super long time, and to be honest, I have no idea if it still is. I don't really listen to much pop music. This song, covered by the Manic Street Preachers is exactly how I think "Umbrella" should go. Its much nicer and rock-ish. I like it better. This song is dedicated to a good friend of mine who absolutley hates that song. She doesn't even read this, so I don't know why i'm mentioning her, but Liz, "Umbrella" will always make me think of you and laugh. Enjoy this cover as a token of our friendship.

The Arctic Monkeys have made a name for themselves both in America and across the pond(of course they are from England). I like them, but truthfully, I haven't heard TONS of their stuff, just a couple of songs. I'm def not an expert. They have covered a song by Amy Winehouse, who has made quite a name for herself. I mean who doesn't love a beehived, crack-whore with tons of talent?! I know I do. "You Know I'm No Good" is from her second album, Back to Black, and the one that busted her into the limelight in the US. I like the cover, of course it doesn't have Amy Winehouse's soulful tone to it, but its still very good.

The last song today is a song I love. I listen to this song all the time. Mr. Blue Sky was originally by ELO and was my mom's favorite song in seventh grade (yikes!). I heard it first on a plane and immediately fell in love with the peppy tone and fun nature. Lily Allen covered this song exclusively for French Motorola? It's a cute commercial and the cartoon Lily Allen matches the song beautifully. I can't decide whether or not I like the cover. I love the original, and I guess I like the cover too, it just kind of takes over the old one. It stays pretty true, but I just like the original better.

So that's it. Back to a class I don't want to be in.
